  1. yes, they can go bad... If you open it and it spews more than a little sput, but makes a loud noise, it is bad... If the vegetable or fruit has turned color yes, it is bad.. if it has a acid taste to it, it is bad....

  3. I've eaten Vietnam era C-Rations and they were fine. If the can is hissing, bulging or is dripping, it's obviously not good.

    Things like peaches, beans and soup can last years. Some manufacturer's date stamps are impossible to decipher - I write the month & year on my canned foods with a magic marker.
