Question:

Do capacitors turn on when the car is off?

Okay I know this mite sound a little crazy but my capacitor is mounted on to the back of my seat, well about an hour ago i wanted to show my friend it and when i pulled my seat down the little digital display turned on, and my car was completly off. Does any one have an answer to this wierd mystery. Oh ya and i just got it installed today so does that have any thing to do with it? thanks guys

  1. Capacitors like batteries, can hold a charge, therefore they can hold power till something drains it while the car is not running.


  2. Unless it has seperate wiring just for the display that is normal.  

    A cap will not really "turn off".  When you shut off the car the voltage in the cap will stabalize to the voltage at the battery.  So when you turn off the car the display will still be lit up until the voltage stablizes.  When you opened your car up the voltage at the battery probably fluctuated which means that it was different then the cap.  That is the reason the display went on.  It is normal and does not hurt anything.

  3. Unless your cap is on the switched circuit it will stay on.

    so it really depends on HOW YOUR WIRED it.
