  1. I don't know if the minimum serving wage has increased or not. Here in Indiana, ALL servers get $2.13/hour as it is expected that they will receive tips. For tax purposes, it is assumed that the server will get 8% in tips.

For this reason, if you don't want to stiff the server, NEVER include the tip on a credit card; leave the tip in cash. The server will be charged at 8% of the food bill but if you put it on your credit card, the server is charged the entire amount.

You're right, it really stinks. My daughter gets 1-2 actual paychecks a year if she's lucky. The rest of the time, she just gets a stub showing how much has been taken for FICA, etc.

  2. The minimum wage for servers is less than the "normal" minimum wage because the servers are expected to earn their income on tips. It's not just Sonic, it's everywhere. Only the most high-end restaurants will pay their servers more than that.

  3. How?Isn't minimum wage more than that?

  4. my friend worked and got $2 an hour, but she got really good tips and one night got $50

  5. All servers go by a different minimum wage than the rest of the job force. I thought it had went up to $3 something at the beginning of they year when min wage increased but not sure. Anyway I know it is crappy but if someone is a great server then they can make a lot in tips especially at a nicer restaurant.

  6. Funny that carhops are numerous, and the Sonic near me is always fully staffed. Why? TIPS! They make the equivalent of $10-12 an hour with tips. It isn't hard work, and it doesn't get cold here. Yes, it rains, but they have ponchos for that. Not bad for a part time job done mostly by high schoolers.
