  1. only if you have vit.A hypovitaminosis.

  2. Not at all! It help you stay healthy and beta-carotene does good for your eyesight somehow but it will never improve it. It only contains vitamins and nutrients needed to be healthy. It's really good for you (unless you plan on recovering from a 03/20 eyesight by eating 16 pounds of carrots a day!) and should be a part of your diet but like I said, it will not improve your eyesight.

  3. I just heard on a radio health program that the myth of carrots' improving eyesight was propagated by the British government during WW2. They were trying to fool the Germans into thinking it was a preponderance of carrots that was making British pilots have terrific eyesight when actually, they were using radar technology and didn't want the enemies to know.

Other herbs like bilberry can help your vision stay sharp.

  4. Yes it does, so does Lutein, Omega 3 and antioxidants.

Look into the Bates Method for improving eyesight. Many people are sceptical of it, as I was, until you give it a try. You have nothing to lose. Find a good local Bates Teacher.

    I reccommend this book:

    Hope this helps.

  5. There is at least a bit of something to the carrots/vision presumption: Beta-carotene, which is found in the vegetable, may help reduce the risk of cataract and macular degeneration. However, it needs be pointed out that studies which have posited this link used doses of Vitamin A or beta-carotene that were higher than what is found in the standard diet.

It would be quite difficult to eat the requisite number of carrots to match this level of intake in the studies often quoted. However, among those who suffer a Vitamin A deficiency, nyctanopia (also known as nyctalopia or night blindness; the inability to see well in poor light) can be at least somewhat helped by adding carrots to your diet.

How does it help this eye disorder?

After beta-carotene is converted to vitamin A in the liver, it travels to the retina where it is transformed into rhodopsin--a purple pigment that is necessary for night-vision. Plus, beta-carotene's powerful antioxidant actions help provide protection against macular degeneration and the development of senile cataracts. the leading cause of blindness in the elderly.

  6. No, it's true. They contain beta-carotene (pre-cursor to Vitamin A) which is important for skin and eyes.

  7. Yes

  8. Yes and no. Carrots contain beta carotene which is a form of pro-vitamin A. Vitamin A deficiency can result in macular degeneration and cataracts. Eating a lot of Beta Carotene isn't going to make your vision perfect, there are genetic factors in that. But if you have a balanced diet with the proper amount of vitamin A, you won't have many eye problems outside the biological factors (so you are less likely to get cataracts, etc).

Something to be warned about: vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin so when you supplement it in its preformed form (aka VITAMIN A supplements rather than Beta Carotene supplements) you run the risk of developing toxicity.

  9. i agree that it can help maintain good eye sight, although not improve eyesight...

i haven't tried it myself, although i believe there's an herbal remedy called eyebright? you can get it in tea even...that may help???

    good luck!

  10. It's true but eating to many carrots can turn you orange too. And that's a fact. SO, don't got carrots crazy or you will look crazy.
