Do cars that are too quite and too comfortable inside cause accidents?

Some of these luxury cars are too much. They do everything but satisfy sexual needs when you drive (and I'm sure someone in Japan has that on the boards.) Is there a time where it calms and relaxes you so much, you are too isolated from the road and you become less responsive to driving conditions?

  1. No, inattentive drives cause accidents, not a car that is too quiet (not quite) and comfortable.

  2. very good point. you may be on to something ............

  3. Being tired causes accidents. It is not that the car is too quiet. My buddies and I just got back from a 1200 mile motorcycle trip and even on our LOUD Harleys, we were almost being lulled into comas after 300 miles on the highway. Oh, and after 45 minutes on the best of seats, our butts start going numb, so it had nothing to do with overt comfort and quietness.

Best safety feature on any vehicle- an alert and competent driver.

  4. Most of the time, driving for more than 30 minutes is the most boring thing one can do . A problem with luxury vehicles is that they are so quiet inside, you can hear a whisper . Another problem is that the driver cannot hear what's going on outside - the sound of the engine and surrounding traffic . Many times a vehicle engine will tell you in advance that it is not feeling well, like sputtering or knocking . If I can't hear outside traffic, I am not going to respond to emergency vehicles under flashing lights and sirens.

As a former limo driver, I always kept my side window cracked just a smidge so I could hear outside, yet not cause undo noise in back . I was (still am) one of those drivers that puts passengers to sleep . That made it harder on me because I had to talk to myself (boring) and on an open highway with no noise, the road was hypnotic . More than a few times I had to shake my head violently, or yawn, force my eyes open wide . Very attention getting when I found myself on the Bots' Dots (raised lane markers) at 70 mph.

  5. yeah, I think they do. With all the buttons and gadgets inside your not really paying attentio to the roads. My mom has a ford Edge and it's REALLY quiet inside and although it doesn't cause accedents, there have been times when I tried starting the car when it was already started.

  6. Yes some of the newer cars are very comfortable and quite that you can find yourself dosing off that is why I tell my customers to keep the radio on and dont keep it so cold in these cars.....
