  1. I read this somewhere and thought it was most interesting.  Wild/feral cats don't communicate with each other as adults by meowing.  Meowing is something that stems from the juvenile stage of cats.  Our pet cats remain in a mental state of kittenhood - that's why they communicate with us by meowing.

    Weird.

  2. Of course ! What do you think its just a coinsidence when you step on their tail and they meow?

  3. of course. some do more than others, some not at all.

  4. i think so.

  5. Ooooh yeah! I actually taught my cat to speak on command for a treat, she meows up a storm. But also, if she runs out of food she will talk and let me know, if she is locked somewhere, she will cry and let me know she's stuck. When I come home, I can hear her crying for me through the door. She talks to the birds outside the window! They will really meow if you accidentally step on their tail! (Don't do this on purpose, lol)

Cat's are like people, they have all sorts of emotions and I swear they are saying different things! My cat has different meow's for different emotions!

  6. Throughout my life I've had many cats and as far as I've experienced, all of them have decided when and if they want to meow.  For the most part, they meow when they want attention of some sort, or vocal cats will acknoledge attention by meowing back and "talking" to you.  Other cats choose to be more quiet and only vocalize with humans by purring.

  7. Yes, some breeds such as the Siamese meow a lot and the Persian rarely meows. Meowing is one of a cat's ways to communicate. And there are certain meows that communicates with humans too.

  8. I think so, my one kitty didnt even purr until 3 month after we got her.

I talk to my kitties some talk back and some wont.. GOOD LUCK!!

  9. Yes, they are trying to get your attention or are in pain

  10. YES, Meow

  11. the cat has a brain. it decides to or not.

the sound comes from mother nature.

  12. Yes.  Anything vocal they do is completely voluntary.

  13. Yes.  They have freedom to meow LOL

Interestingly enough I read something that said that most meows cats make are for cat/human communication - they rarely meow at eachother.  So it's the cat's choice to meow, but we're the REASON for it!

  14. lmao i guess anything they do is their choice.

  15. Cats have many sounds they make for different reasons.  Once you are tuned into your cat's language, you will know what she is saying as she meows.  My cats tell me what is going on by the sounds they give out.  It just takes time for you to really understand what meows go with what feelings it is having.  They have as many feelings as you do.

  16. do you choose to talk

  17. yep
