  1. Yeah, unfortunately, cats can contract the virus. Be careful around a possibly infected animal though, because humans can contract it too. If your cat has symptoms, call animal control asap.

  2. yes! cats have rabies, my cats are getting their anti-rabies annually.

  3. Cats do have rabies put vaccines on the cat 4 a more healthier cat.

  4. mine don't!

    = ]]

  5. Cats can get rabies, if exposed.

You have a lot of good replies here already, and the only thing I can add is a correction to one of them.

One reply here says that "all mammals get rabies," and that is absolutely not true! Opossums are mammals, and their body temp is too low to incubate the virus.

It is not true that all mammals get rabies.

  6. ALL mammals can carry Rabies.  It is transfered from animal to animal via the blood stream, so if "any" mammal is bitten or scratched by another animal infected with the disease, and the sickness enters the blood stream of the other animal, it WILL come down with Rabies and eventually die.

If you are concerned about a particular animal and you have suspicions about it, DO NOT TOUCH it in any way.  Call the Animal Control Dept. and have them come and collect it.  Also, there is a vaccination against Rabies if you live or work in an area where it might be present.  The shots are NOT in the stomach like the old times, and are not painful.  I've had them several times because of the work I do.

  7. Well, not all of them! Cats are certainly capable of catching and carrying the disease, but it would be ridiculous to assume that every single cat has it. That would be like saying: "Do humans have AIDS?"

  8. Yes!

  9. Yes. They are filthy creatures that should be drowned at birth.

  10. They can get them if they haven't had their shots.

  11. No, cats do not have rabies.  Cats, like most mammals (including humans) can GET rabies.  Rabies don't just happen out of the blue.  You aren't born with it.  Rabies are contracted when a mammal comes into contact with the saliva or brain tissue of another animal that has been infected.  Rabies is an infectious disease transmitted through certain types of physical contact.  It is also fatal if not treated immediately.  Most mammals do not live for long after contracting this disease.

  12. Any mammal can get rabies.

    Cat are mammals.

    Therefore, cats can have rabies.

Rabies is almost always fatal.  Mammals don't have dormant rabies.  If the animal is sick it will quickly show symptoms.

  13. They can contract rabies if they got into a fight with another animal that had the virus.

And to the person above, maybe YOU should've been drowned at birth :)

  14. Cats can contract rabies, yes. From fighting an infected animal, being bitten by a rat or killing and consuming a rat, or any animal already infected. To have a pet passport even cats have to be vaccinated against rabies.

  15. The ones that have rabies do.

That's like saying do humans have colds?

  16. no, they have catbies.
