  1. Cats can have rabies, yes....

If you are bitten by a stray cat...you probably want to get that looked at.

It may involve getting a rabies vaccination.

(NOT PLEASANT, I might add....there are several rounds of vaccines you have to get if you were bitten)

  2. If u got rabies, make a "will" real fast.  all animals can contract rabies, even us humans.  don't bite or scratch ur bf/gf.

  3. If you've been bitten by a stray cat or any animal, always wash with soap thoroughly then go to the hospital immediately, stray animals can have rabies. Even if the animal does not show symptoms of rabies it still can be infected since the virus has a "incubation" period.  Other problems with cat bites can arise also, Cat Scratch Fever and cellulitis.  If the area you've been bitten swells up (cellulitis) then you need antibiotics as it is a bacterial infection.  Cat Scratch Fever is also caused by a bacteria but is usually self limiting, but you should still see a doctor.

  4. Cats, like any mammal, can get rabies.  Your local health department would be aware of the severity of rabies in the wild animal population.  In some places it would be extremely rare, and in other places, a definite possibility.  Animals that have rabies can be very aggressive.

First aid is immediate medical attention, and capturing the suspect animal is a bonus.  This is not something for do-it-yourself treatment.

  5. Yes matter of fact we just had a case or rabies here in eastwood. There was a cat at a trailor park acting strange so a woman grabbed it and took to vets it tested positive for rabies. They can get it if they eat infected animal or are bit by one. If you have gotten bitten or even gotten saliva on a open cut you need to be looked at.. First of all wash wound good with soap and water over and over again. If can catch cat for quarintine that is good thing. Well, it is not common for them to get it they can and you can. Good luck.

  6. It depends. If the cat that bit you was a felis domesticas (house cat), you have no worry as long as it's had all its shots. If the attacker was a stray, you should, and I know it may be mean, capture it and bring it to the vet to be put down. They will do an autopsy and if it comes up as rabies, you must go through a series of disturbing and painful shots. If it comes up negative, you have wasted a life. Most cats won't have rabies unless you live in a very rural area where wild animals can give it to them. One more thing! If you are not bleeding, you are fine! Rabies is transferred through saliva so it can't infect you as long as it didn't draw blood. Just wash the bitten part with plenty of soap and whatever you do, don't l**k it. All in all, the chances of you getting rabies is very slim but it's always good to be safe!

  7. Any mammal can get hydrophobia (rabies) and the animal has to be caught and tested otherwise you have to have a series of inoculations in the belly which are quite painful.

  8. Yes, cats can get rabies.  If you get bit by a cat, I would highly recommend seeing a doctor immediately.  If you need to, go to a vet to get cleaned up.  They understand how serious that can be.

My sister works for a vet, and she got bit by a cat.  They sent her to the hospital where she sat for 3 hours waiting to be seen.  The doctor didn't bother cleaning her up or anything.  He just gave her a shot for the pain and told her she could go back to work.  When she got back to the work, the vet cleaned her up and bandaged the wound.  My sister now has partial paralysis in her hand caused by the cat's saliva.  If the doctor had just cleaned her up, she would've been ok.  Don't let that happen to you if you've been bitten.
