Do cats possibly go away from home and then return?

Me house cat has been gone from home since last night and he hasn't been home to eat or anything and no one has seen him around. I've heard that cats go away from home for some time and then return. He is 9 months old.

Thanks

  1. Yes, they can find their way back home, but I agree with justahum start looking now! Is your cat chipped? If he has not come home and he has been going outside for 5 or 6 months, consider the worst and hope for the best.

  2. You need to start looking for him NOW.  Put up flyers, talk to neighbors.  Not all cats can find their way home, especially if it's their first time outside.  He may be scared and in hiding.  I would bet he's within a couple of houses.  Look in the odd places (under bushes, houses, under cars....).  Let your neighbors know you are missing him and to please watch out.  Talk to the kids in the neighborhood - and offer them $5 to the one that finds him - but doesn't try to pick the cat up (he's probably scared and may bite or scratch - and you would be held responsible) and come back to you.  Good luck!

  3. how could you let such a young kitten outside unattended?  it's bad enough that people are dumb enough to let their cats outside unattended but a kitten that is just insane.

  4. Very often cats will go out and wander , its their nature to do so...i know its not safe to let them outside, my cat got out  and was gone for over 48 hours before she showed back up, healthy  but hungry. i would however  try walking the neighborhood  to look for your cat or put up fliers, but more than likely it will come home in a day or so.

  5. yes i always let my cat out back and she is very good about coming back but if you keep them in the house for a long time and then like a week later let them out they will stay out really long because they need air too so don't get scared if your cat doesn't come back right away cause they will

  6. YES he will always come back and this is totally normal its the nature of the cat to explore mine do it all the time and they allways will know where home is

  7. If your cat hasn't been fixed then he is at the right age to be out sowing his wild oats so to speak. First off, when he gets home you should keep him in and make an appointment to have him fixed right away. This is the responsible thing to do as there are far too many unwanted kittens in the world. Put a bowl of food on your door step and watch for him to return; it could be a day or a week and maybe longer depending on how big your neighborhood is and how far he roamed. You should also post up flyers for him just in case someone took him in thinking he didn't have a home. Good luck and I hope he comes home soon.

  8. Yes That is there home and they no that they always come back unless something happened or they were abused in your house

  9. They maybe are being feed from another sorce.  Is your cat inside or outside cat?  I have 3 cats. All are able to go in and out as they please.  One cat stopped coming home about 2 weeks ago.  He has or had a collar with rabies info and our phone and address on it.  He is orange.  Another cat went missing (also orange) about 1 1/2 days, but was found not to far without his collar by a friend, and is fine.  Our 3rd cat is silver and has not been gone missing like the others.  I read most cats can be found within a mile of home, so you may need to get on your bike and go thru your neighborhood.   I have made posters about our still missing cat and still hope for the best.  I live in Oklahoma.  Good luck!
