Do cell phones get serivce in the Dominican Republic?

I have verizon wireless and i am going on vacation soon to the Dominican republic ( Punta Cana ) and i was wondering if anyone knew whether i'd get service there

  1. Yes, but if you have a company phone I would use that instead. You need to get your service provider to "open" the international  service for you and find out what the code is to dial out. My att phone would not dial out but I could receive calls and text messages. Even those are expensive....AND I HAVE THE UNLIMITED PLAN! there are different companies over there and you will get hammered with fees. I would suggest using your hotel phone and perhaps e-mail as communication. I came back from there after 2 weeks in Santo Domingo and up in Samana with a $300 (additional) bill so about $500. Ouch.


  2. yes i just got back from there and i have verizon. it works, but you are roaming so it will be very expensive to use it. i haven't gotten my bill yet so i don't know how much it will cost.  what resort? i had the best time there. I want to go back soon.
