Question:

Do certain ones of your pets have priority in case of emergency?

If there was an emergency, like a tornado or fire, would there be certain animals you'd get out first? Or do you consider all your animals equal?

I was thinking about this the other day. The dogs definitely have priority, they'd be the first out. If I had time, I'd get the guinea pig, chinchilla, and gecko. And sorry to the fish, I'm not going to save you, it wouldn't be feasible to stand there with a net and a bucket catching fish out of the tank.

  1. I love them all equally, but the cat isn't always "right there" like the dogs are. I hope I'm never in that situation, because I do worry about what would happen to the cat. The dogs are easy...they do what I say and are too big to hide :) The cat is a different story, and in the event of a fire...you won't find me down on all fours looking under beds and in closets for the cat. I would of course open windows and hope that she has enough sense to leave the house.

Edit: I don't think I'd have to choose between the dogs...if I tell Lacie outside...she'll go, and Loki will follow her to the moon if that's where she's headed :)

  2. sawyer, my papillon, would be first. he's my dog, my baby, and i love him sooo much. oski, our corgi, would be next. the reason he's second is because he's mainly my dad's dog, and sawyer's mine. i love oski, but if i had to choose, it would be sawyer. last would be my bird. i'd try to save him but i'd choose my life, and my dog's lives, over the bird's anyday.

  3. all my dogs are equal in this respect. i would open doors/windows so the cats could get out. but the dogs take care of me in life or death, so i take care of them in life or death.

last summer my landlords wanted me to go to their house during a tornado watch. i refused because i couldn't bring the dogs.

  4. The dogs would get out on their own.

I'd have to find my Lucky Cat. I love my dogs to pieces, but they are smart enough to follow the rest of my family out. Lucky is not. If one of the dogs was lost, I'd find them...I'd be the idiot who was running all over the house.

By the way, whenever we have a tornado warning, my parents are usually screaming at me because I'm still running around trying to get everyone safely into the cellar.

  5. In our house, Jenna our 2 year old lab mix has priority.  Then again, she is a service dog.  Without her, it would be nearly impossible to handle our 6 year old daughter outside of the home (our daughter is severely autistic and the dog does a number of things to keep her functioning in a reasonable manner that keeps her safe and not disturbing others).  Gwyn is 9 years old, has been my buddy through thick and thin.  She's very anxious in storms and such, but sadly, I have to value the service dog more (I've spent about 7 grand training her).

  6. I only have my two dogs- The cat is outside so she can fend for herself, I thought you were trying to ask wich one I would get out first. I couldn't choose between the two of them. I would grab them both- Titus would take off and get out of the house I think I would have to drag out Violet because she is so timid and she gets scared around loud noises and commotion

  7. I always tell Jon i would save Gidget( my cat... first pet that I got as an adult) first. He says their is no way I would save the cat before the dog. He's probably right. I'll get both at the same time and he can grab the other cat. Everything else in the house is replaceable. =)

  8. The cats - The dog has good instincts, and if you open the front door and the car door, she'll be in the car faster than you can blink. Even if you're not going to the car, wherever I am, so is she - I can rely upon her to leave with me. The cats, OTOH, are scatterbrained, and will need to be rounded up and convinced to go along, to save their lives.

  9. I'd open the door so Judge could get out and then I'd scoop my guinea pig out of her cage and make a run for it. Her cage is near the door so it wouldn't be that hard to get her out. But if there was something preventing me from reaching her sadly Judge would come first.

  10. wow what an awful thing to think about! my youngest pitbull is such a scardy cat i'd have to carry her.. but i love my cats so much too >.<; i've got a cat carrier sittin on the floor in my room so i could stuff them all in there at one time and push it with my foot while i carry my little pitbull and tell my older one to follow me >.>; gah what a nightmare! hope the time never comes for that >.<;

add: ops forgot to answer part of the question. my older dog is definitely the most important to me, but i love them all so much it would be hard to choose if i could only save one. because my oldest dog understands verbal commands i don't think i'd have to do much besides tell him to "go outside" unless he was unable to move.. in which case i'd be f*cked cuz he weighs half of what i do... my cats could escape if i opened the window but my youngest pitbull would definitely be the one who needs help getting out.. i'd prolly save her first =/

  11. No, they are not equal.

Tori would be my priority if possible, but maybe that's because she is 3 years old and I've had her longer than JJ.

I think in an emergency I would go first to the one I had the best chance of rescuing and then someone would have to sit on me to stop me going back for the other Dobe, even if it was dangerous to attempt it.

  12. Thank god I only have the dogs, that makes my decision a little easier. ;)  I think that Creek (7 yr old boxer) and Bella (roommate's lab mix, also 7) would be smart enough to follow me and get the heck outta there, however Caney (1 yr old boxer -- my avatar) would probably be shaking in the corner, so I'd definitely focus on her because I know I'd have to carry or drag her out.  That's the one boxer trait she's lacking -- bravery.  But I love my little, 65 pound wimp ;)

If it was a widespread disaster, like a tornado, first thing I'd do is call my mom (15 minutes away) and make sure she knew where my cat was.  I'm always afraid she forgets about him =(  (He has to live with my parents because boyfriend is allergic)
