  1. They do not get paid very much. It also depends on what restraunts you work at. About 50,000 $ per year. on the other hand if you were one of the star tv chefs on tv you would get paid much more than that.

  2. I'm interested in cooking as well, and although I'm not a chef, I've done plenty of research. I think cooking as a profession goes as well as music, or photography. How well you succeed depends on how well you cook.

You can get jobs at many places and thats really where the wage fluctuates.

You could end up at a hotel, store, restaurant, or even become an entrepreneur. I think in the end it comes down to how different you are than every other cook out there to really make yourself stand out, and be demanded in the world of culinary arts.

Would you be able to support a family? Absolutely. Make sure that you get proper schooling too. The better your resume is, the better job you'll get, the more money you'll make.

If you have a passion for cooking.. then just do it.. It's hard to say just do it when you have a family to raise.. but if you don't remind yourself of how much you love what you're doing, you won't be as content :). goodluck!

  3. It will depend on your ambitions.

You could enjoy working as a "greasy spoon" cook, or manage to cope with the pressure in a "Michelin" starred top end restaurant.
