Hello, on a trip which has 1 adult and 2 children, (13 and 9), from Illinois to Florida, do the children need a passport or other kind of photo I.D.? Do the passports have to be up-to-date? Or what kind of photo I.D. would they need?

Thank you.

  1. No they do not.

I would carry there birth certificates just as a form of positive id.

  2. Children travelling with an adult do not need I.D. for domestic flights.  See the TSA site below to read that only those persons over age 18 must present I.D.  I always felt teenagers should carry an i.D. as it is often hard to tell by looking, what their age is, and they need it for other things anyway...so I took them to the DMV and got them theor state i.D. cards at about 14.   Then they had thpse to use when they flew unacompaned.

  3. No, you will only need a passport if you are flying out of the US.  And that means you can also  fly to Hawaii, Puerto Rico and St Thomas without one.
