  1. No, there is no need for passports between any part of the U.K. or Ireland. We are all part of what is known as the Common Passport Area. The only people to ask for passports for U.K. travel is Ryanair and it has no legal basis whatsoever. It is only a company ruling.  No such rule exists with shipping companies. I would, however, suggest that you carry some form of identification for yourself. The U.K. authorities sometimes carry out spot checks a ferry ports and it could cause some delay if you cannot identify yourself to their satisfaction. Have a good holiday. Wales is a great place to bring kids.
