  1. I taught a 2nd grade class French once a week at a private school, for free.  The students were so sweet and very very attentive!

For Valentine's day, one of the boys brought me a whole cake from La Madeline's. (A French restaurant chain in the U.S.) He was so red when he gave it to me!  I think he had a little bit of a crush and/or was embarrassed to be giving a cake to a girl in front of the whole class.

    This was two years ago.

  2. Absolutely. Though it has been more common for students to participate in a class gift, in which the room mother or another parent collects donations from other parents and buys one large gift rather than multiple small gifts. I've gotten some great gifts cards to a local shopping center, Target, nice restaurants, etc. Some students still bring individual gifts and, of course, are not required to participate at all if they so choose.

  3. I got several gifts- nearly from every student for Christmas.  At the end of the year I got some awesome things- a tshirt with my classes picture on it, an afghan, gift cards, books, jewelry, scrapbooking materials, baked goods and flowers.  It's not expected and I still loved each kid the same.  Those who did not bring gifts from home made me cards in class which was just as sweet and I still have them :-)

  5. Yes they do. Although not all of them do so. As a teacher, here are some gifts that I wish I got: Starbucks gift cards, Target/Walmart (someplace that sells school supplies) gift cards, Barnes and Noble gift cards, school supplies, flowers, Brighton jewelry.

I would say gift cards are your best bet. Stay away from stuffed animals, coffee mugs, and clothing.

If you can't afford anything, the best thing a student can give her teacher is a homemade card that tells her teacher how much she appreciates her. (We keep those forever, you know.)

  6. Yes, they do.In fact, it is very common here in Brazil, especially at Easter (where we get chocolate eggs) and at Xmas time. Where I teach, however, the kids have several teachers and they can't always bring a gift to ALL of them. I agree that a homemade card is always nice.

  7. i did. last year i was in 6th grade and that was the last year my elementary school had 6th grade and i gave my teacher a gift for xmas. wel i did that from like 2nd grade to 6th. i liked all my teachers back then. but now i give only like 3 teachers gifts out of 6 cuz i dont like all 6.

  8. uh, yes

    ..cards

  9. Yes, my family is always jealous at Christmas because I have waaay more presents to open than they do.

  10. i would imagine so

    if the teacher was nice

  11. Actually, with the cost of everything going up so much this year, I opted not to get my kids' teachers anything this year. They just made nice home-made cards, which I think is nicer anyway.  Trust me, we don't hold it against them!

  12. Of course they do! Why wouldn't they?

It's just a classy thing to do to show your appreciation to the teacher with a gesture even if it's only a five dollar gift card to Target with a drawing or hand-written note from the student as well.
