Question:

Do children who wet the bed need to wear a nappy during a nap in the daytime?

The reason I ask is that for the next week I am having to look after my 5 year old niece because her mum has to go into hospital and her dad died when she was two.

I have been told that she wets the bed (quite normal at age 5 I suppose) am am being given a supply of nappies to take care of that but I have been told that if we do something very tiring in the morning and want to do something later on she will need a nap in between.

Do children who wet the bed need protection during a nap in the daytime? because it seems strange to have to put a nappy on a five year old girl during the day.

What do you do about this issue?

Has this occured with any of your children?

  1. I Also have a five year old niece. Can Your Niece Talk? If She can then make sure she tells you when she needs to go. my niece always tells me. She used to wear nappies during bedtime but now she has got older she has grown out of it. Make sure she tells you when she needs to go. This way you won't need her to wear nappies.

    Good Luck

  2. you could try  this, where ever she is going to have her nap you could just place a couple of thick towels under her in case she does have an accident, that way she might feel grown up by not having to wear a nappy.  you could also sit her on the toilet before she has her nap, afternoon naps normally arent that long so she probably wont have an accident, hope this helps

  3. Some children do wet the bed its quiet normal my 5yr old does.

If her mummy is going in hosp and you have to look after her I would keep everything in her normal routine its tramatic enough being away from her mum.

  4. I'd talk to the mother about it.. If that isn't possible, put a nappy on her during her nap, and see what happens. If she wets it, you knew you did the right thing. It all depends at which point in her sleep cycle she wets. Most kids her age haven't grown bladders large enough to go through the whole night, hence the wetting. This should be less of an issue during a short nap.
