Do coaches of teams (such as basketball) receive medals at the Olympics along with the athletes?

After watching the medal ceremony for the men's indoor volleyball, I noticed that all the athletes were on the podium but not the head coach. I know they aren't actually playing the game, but don't they deserve a medal as well for leading the team?

  1. Nope. No medals for coaches. It seems strange in team sports where coaches traditionally receive so much recognition, but imagine if ALL coaches received medals when their athletes won (track coaches, gymnastics coaches (each gymnast has multiple coaches), swimming coaches, boxing trainers, etc.). There would be so many medals floating around that they might not mean as much.

Although, it would be nice if the winning athletes gave their coach(es) something memorable (a ring, a medal, etc.).

  2. no they don't.

  3. No and it's unfortunate.

A nice alternative, though, is what our men's basketball team did after they won their gold: they draped all of their medals around their Coach Krzyzewski's neck.

I think coaches should get honorary medals or some form of recognition.

  4. nope. but I've seen some coaches/athletes have special rings made symbolizing their win, that way it can always be a part of them, otherwise it would kinda suck to wear their medals all the time. ;)

  5. I didn't realise it either til after the US Men's team won, when all the players put their medals around the coach's neck. I can't imagine why coaches shouldn't get medals as well. Those guys are all stars in their own rights but the coach owns the credit for blending them together. Teamwork won the gold medal. Coach made the team work. Coach deserves a medal. That's like having beautiful music and giving credit to the orchestra but not the music conductor.

  6. No.  Coaches don't recieve a medal.  If it were up to me, they'd get one.  They're part of the team.

  7. unfortunately...though..the coach makes them work hard nd all.he doesn't  get any recognition. Not even his name is announced..i feel that the coaches should at least,be given an honorary award from the particular country.....

  8. As much as they deserve, no

    They shoud do tho!!

  9. The U.S. mens basketball team gave their coach all of their medals, because they felt that he really deserved it more than them.
