Im moving to sophmore year and im taking AP NSL, Computer Programming, Precalc, Biology, English, Spanish 4, and Advanced basketball. People have been telling me to switch out of basketball and take something better or else it would look bad on my record for college. I took gym on my freshman year but do colleges really care or stress about it if you take a gym class more than once? i was thinking that i needed a relaxing class so i chose gym first. But would taking gym more than 1 time affect how the colleges make their decision wether or not to accept you?

  1. Well when taking AP classes in high school are usually counted to your college credits. But including sports wont really make a difference unless you plan to participate in a team at your college. They will always look at your transcript but you may insert the fact that you've taken extra fitness/sport classes on your resume. Most colleges like to see that you are active in extracurricular activities.

They would definitely not deny you entrance because you've taken an extra fitness class. So there is no losing.

I'd say stick with your fitness class but make sure you are going to have enough room to take other required classes.

    g'luck!

  2. The fact that you chose gym I don't believe would be the thing that would give your college resume a negative effect. It would probably be that your application was missing something critical, and colleges would think you could have chosen that instead of gym.

  3. You are required to have some sort of physical education class.  Colleges don't care which ones you take -- unless  you are particularly good in that sport and they are recruiting you for it.

  4. Whoever is telling you basketball will look bad is simply wrong.  It will look neither as good, or bad, as gym, or any other PE activity you can think of.

    Thanks
