Do colleges mind if in my Sophmore year I didn't take much honors courses?

I mean, colleges like Brown/BU/Northeastern.

My teachers in the 9th grade (in which I got mainly As) decided to place me in college-prep courses (apparently I wasn't honors material)...and come 10th grade I got legit A+s in English, History and Biology-the college prep classes) and just As in my honors courses.

11th grade my college-prep teachers reccommended me for honorsAp so I took all honors/AP and am doing the same next year...

Does taking only college-prep classes my sophmore year matter to colleges?

  1. No, colleges are going to be considering your test scores and your Jr. Year mostly. Your senior year won't be recorded yet when you begin to apply for these colleges, so really your Jr. year is most important. If you go the less expensive route and go to a junior college first and transfer (which I would recommend!!) they won't even look at your high school classes, and won't require any test scores (such as the SAT or ACT)

  2. ok, i hate to be a b*tch, but unless you're some sort of really rare nationality and you have the best grades in the country in the hardest classes and you've already cured cancer, brown isn't going to be an option.  i mean, don't take what i said the wrong way, and if you really want to go there it is worth a shot (kiss *ss and interview and run circles around them).  as for the other two...nah, i don't think that they'll mind.  if you think that you can do just as well in college prep classes, of course, push to get into those. challenge yourself as much as possible without having your grades drop (too much...a small drop with the added effort will be ok).  just remember to make yourself look unique and like an asset to the school through your extra circulars and interview (if the school recommends it) run circles around them and differentiate yourself from the rest of the student population.  show them that you want to go to THEIR school, not that you're just applying because you could click the button on the common app.  GOOD LUCK!!!

  3. well im a sophmore right now and im a great student but i didnt take any honor courses ... however it really depends on what kind of grades you have and really to be honest they just look at your junior year grades so dont worry that much ... but it also depends on what college u are going to go to

    hope this helped =]

  4. no as along as you did take some and did fairly well. i know that colleges like that really look at little things like how much volunteer work you do and if you are active in any clubs. good luck with everything.

  5. Your rank is MORE important than the rigor of your classes. Keep taking AP courses if you only get A's in them.

  6. I don't think so. I think they just care about what credits transfer into their school. I just took college prep english my sophomore year and they didn't even look at tha too much. I think though you should get some brochure information or even look on their web pages if you can and get their phone number and ask them about their requirements. Because most colleges just don't care about that stuff as long as you are applying for them.

  7. Nah, I'd say any 3 of those colleges would take u in a minute, maybe aim higher?
