Do commerce ATM cards work in France, particularly Paris?

A few years back my sister was in Nice and hers didn't work putting my dad in a frenzy to go to the Western union to her her cash. A month ago a commerce worker assured my mother it would work so i believed it, but then my sister found out tonight that i was using my ATM card in France, but seeing as she can be a flake I'm wondering about your experiences?

I'm leaving in a day and a half PLEASE HELP ME

and yes I've already told the bank I'm leaving for France and my account is working perfectly

  1. What do you mean a "commerce" card?  If you just have an ATM card (not credit or debit) then yes, you will probably run into problems.  As long as you have a credit or debit card that has the logo of a major credit card provider on it (VISA or MasterCard, etc.) then you should be find.  Otherwise, pack up the traveler's checks b/c your plain old ATM card might put you in a pickle.


  2. Yes, it will work.  Just be sure your PIN doesn't have a zero in it, because many European keypads don't have a zero button =]

  3. Yes, it will work, but you have to make sure the money is coming from your checking account, not savings. At least thats what I experienced in Europe.

  4. call you company and let them know, sometimes they thing that it is a stollen card, so they cancel your account!

  5. If your PIN has more than 4 digits, it will most likely NOT work. Change your PIN to a 4 digit one before you leave.
