Do contact lenses give you dry eye syndrome?

Do contact lenses cause dry-eye syndrome? Is there any way to prevent it? What are the chances that I will get dry-eye syndrome if I start wearing contacts?

  1. No, but they can exacerbate it.  You must have enough tears to support your own eye and a contact lens.  If you only have enough for the eye, but the lens pushes you past critical mass, you may need to consider wearing lenses specifically for folks with dry eye, such as acuvue oasys or proclear.  Also, you can supplement your tears with artificial tears.  Talk to your doctor about this when getting fit.


  2. Yes if u over wear it. For example wearing it for 7days per week is not recommended. Wear it for about 5 days then 2 day off.
