  1. No. They do take up 'song space', as in internal memory, but the size of contacts are negligible.  


  2. Yes, contacts do take up room in the iPod that would otherwise be used for songs or videos, however it is such a tiny amount it isn't worth worrying about

    Each contact is roughly 4 kilobytes, so you could fit 250000 contacts in one gigabyte of memory
