In no, are they allowed to vote inside the prison? Or do they have to wait until they are released?

Just something I've always wondered.

  1. depends on the state. Normally while in prision you lose your voting rights. Some states reinstate them upon release or the end of their term.

Part of the brouhaha in Florida in 2000, and FL and Ohio in 2004 was several thousand former felons, who had served their time and whose voting rights should have been restored, were barred from voting. In both those states give the right to vote back to former convicts, but for some reason it didn't work for everybody.

  2. yes, they loose all rights until after 5-7 years after release then they can petition the court for a record annulment.
