  1. No. Priority for ATC services is first come, first served. However you may be sequenced in such a way so that the overall flow of traffic is efficient.

Right of way, from a truly statutory standpoint is based upon the aircraft's ability to maneuver. It's all spelled out in FAR 91.113. (eg: balloons have right of way over gliders, which have right of way over airships etc)

Additional details: The aircraft in front of you in the pattern will be the one landing before you. The aircraft lower and closer to the runway is supposed to land first (But the rules state that he may not use this position to cut in front of another aircraft.) Basically it's keep an eye out and an ear open and follow the airplane in front of you. If there's nobody in front of you, then you're number one for the field.

  2. The answer is "no", and grumpy geezer spelled it out fairly well.  However, there are many corporate pilots that THINK they have a right of way.

  3. If piston plane is training then generally yes, but if both have filed a flight plan then NO. Having said that, jets are faster so will normally be postioned to land first, plus on departure jets do not have to do power checks so are also normally given priority for departure as well. But the answer to your question is no, provided piston and jet are both on a flight plan, legally jets do not have right of way, more a question of convenience for ATC...

  4. no!! not even at a uncontrolled airport. first come first serve. most pilots i know would give the jet priority over there slow prop job. they are burning lots more fuel fuel a hour then us and its easy for us to slow down and make time for them

  5. Who ever the ATC give permission to First. On the norm.

But it all depands upon the reasons why ATC may give the call.

The Tower gave the right of way TOO ME over a DC-9 Jet liner, I was in a Cessna 172.

    Go, Fig.
