Question:

Do cows always lactate?

Because I was thinking, they are mammals, right? Just like us humans, we are only lactating when we have a child, so do they give them a special hormone to keep them lactating?

If they did, wouldn't that be bad for humans?

I'm really confused.

  1. a cow must have one calf in order to lactate after that they lactate for the rest of their lives.

  2. No . They become what is called fresh( lactation) at the birth of a calf continue to produce milk up to about three months before the next calf, then go dry until the cycle recommences

  3. Cows are kept pregnant to produce milk. Calve are born, removed and put into small pens alone or put into tight veal boxes. Sometimes a lucky male calf gets to be a bull someday. The females end up as milkers when they grow up.
