Question:

Do credit card companies continue to press charges for fraud even if the cardholder drops charges?

Ex-husband's girlfriend stole and used an old gas station credit card with both our names on it. We have since closed the account. He originally dumped her, reported it to the credit card company and pressed charges. Now he has decided to drop the charges if she pays him back. Will the credit card company continue to persue legal action against her?

  1. If she pays him, how is that going to satisfy the reported fraudulent charges still owed(?) to the credit card company?  They need to work that out with the credit card company who would probably just be happy to get their money with interest and legal fees, since they would have nothing more to recover from her at that point.

  2. The credit card company will continue to press charges if they had to pay back the fraud. They want their money back somehow.

Otherwise if it was just a claim they will probably let it go.

  3. They probably will UNLESS somebody pays them in a hurry!!

  4. As long as the bill is paid. And that he drops all charges there is no legal action to be taken.

  5. Very simple: As long as the credit card company is paid ,from whomever, no charges will be filed. And really, this is not between your credit card company and the abuser, it's between you and the credit company and you and the abuser.

  6. If he drops the charges, it will make him responsible for the bill.  The credit card company will go after him for the money--they will not be able to go after her if he drops the charges.   ***

  7. Yes they have the option to continue with the charges even after he has dropped them.
