Do crepe myrtle trees put off some kind of moisture that makes it look like it is raining?

    " They rain sticky sap all over the park benches, rendering them useless. Avoid this plant at all costs! Don't get suckered into the crepe myrtle fad. The fad will pass, but the plant will be a menace forever!"

    But that`s not the trees fault; mealybugs and aphids are  common pests of these trees and they produce a sweet substance called honeydew (coveted by ants), which drops down and looks a bit like rain.
