Question:

Do critics generally like or dislike anachronism?

This is a question for serious English buffs.

I'm doing a research paper on anachronism in Joseph Heller's works, which by the way, anachronism is one of the hardest topics to pick due to the sparse resources available about it.

I read somewhere that critics generally dislike anachronism, so I included it in my paper, but I cannot find the site again, and I don't remember anything about it. It's also possible that what I read could be wrong, so if you know ANYTHING about critics' viewpoints on anachronism, please, let me know, and INCLUDE SOURCES, because I need to be able to cite them.

^ I found this literary criticism about anachronism in Shakespeare's Cymbeline, where it mentions the positive purpose of anachronism for that particular story.

I know you're not writing about Shakespeare, but maybe this gets you off to a good start? Sorry if I didn't really help. =/
