Do cruise ships have the same security details as planes?

I am taking a trip on a mini cruiser and wanted to know if there is anything that I am not allowed to bring aboard?

  1. I have cruised a lot over the last 5 years.  They inspect but not as tight as airports.  You can bring alcohol aboard but they hold it for you.  When you go aboard you to through a metal detector.  I scuba dive and have a knife attached to my BC and they took it until the cruise was over.


  2. I have taken two cruises post Sept. 11 and we were not restricted in any manner. There were points that we had to go thru metal detectors, and security was tight in terms of checking ID's and the on and off at port.

    Alcohol had to be bought at duty free, and any alcohol bought in port was not available to drink.

    Divers would inspect the hull before we were allowed to push  out from the dock or raise our anchor. That was interesting.

    Call or email your cruise company and ask them for security regs.
