This might be a ridiculous question, but I am going on a cruise next month and I'm on blood pressure medicine that I have to take every day and I started worrying what if I lose the medicine?? My doctor said he could give me a prescription to take with me to get filled just in case, but do cruises even have pharmacies onbaord??

  1. Cruise ships have medical facilities on board, and thus stock the usual medicines they might need.  It tends to be very expensive, however!  There is no pharmacy like a Walgreen's, though, and any medicines you need to acquire on board come only from the medical office.   I suggest that you take your medicines in your carry-on bag, and think about taking a week's worth of extra just in case you are delayed somehow. (NEVER pack medicines in checked luggage, since it can be lost or delayed!)   Also, a statement from your doctor's office on letterhead as to your diagnosis and list of medications you take will be worthwhile and will help a lot at the ship's medical office in case you need to see them for any reason.  As to space to carry medicines in your carry-on bag and/or purse, you should absolutely have them in either the original pharmacy bottles or in plastic bags with pharmacy labels attached (takes less room!).  Pills not in properly labeled containers can be confiscated at security.   I take 8 prescriptions every day, and that's a lot to carry, but my pharmacy is very nice about making a second set of stick-on labels, which I put on zipper-style sandwich baggies, one bag for each kind, and transfer the pills I plan to need plus a week's extra into the sandwich bags, and then put all the little baggies into a larger zipper bag just to keep them all together.  For convenience I also put two of the plastic day-by-day boxes in my suitcase, and dole the pills into the little boxes after I arrive on board --- helps me make absolutely sure I haven't forgotten to take anything!  HAVE FUN!

  2. They have some medication on board, that I know, but they may not have exactly the same as what you take. My husband forgot his meds on a cruise that started in Australia. They wonderful folks of Princess took us to a pharmacy while we were in Australia and we got the prescription filled right away. It was what I call really great service. So you have nothing to worry about, but do take your medication with you on your carry-on bag.
