Do date palms spit?

Question

I have a garden growing under a date palm, and everything seems to be mottled with little specks, something akin to the way elm trees leave specks on the car windows in the driveway. Should I avoid planting under the palm?

You could have an sucking type insect in the palm and the specks are p**p........that's what the stuff under elms are, aphid p**p....yes, it's sticky.  

No, I wouldn't plant a garden under this area mainly because the insect p**p gets on the plants and may invite sooty mold to move in on the leaves.
