  1. The next of kin claims the body or the prisoner is buried in potters field if he has no one.

  2. Years ago here when a person was hanged there body was buried in the prison in unconsecrated ground.

  3. When some one is executed in prison they are released to the family. If no one claims the body they burry them in the Prisons Cemetary.

  4. Thats why that prison meat tastes so bad.

  5. The body would be released to the next of kin (funeral home of choice).    If no one claims the body, many times they are transported to a medical school to be used for scientific/research purposes and, later, buried at a cost to the State  in a pauper's cemetery.

  6. When a prisoner is executed,  first the medical examiner must examine the body and then they must declare that the person is actually deceased.  The prisoners body cannot be released until it is examined by the medical examiner,  and it is determined that they are in fact dead.

If the persons family members claim the body then they can release it to the family.

If there are no family members to claim the body then the body is buried in the prison cemetery.   The grave is marked only  with  numbers and a date,  that is how they identify who is actually buried in that plot.

I hope that this helps answer your question.  I wish you all the best.  God bless.

  7. Hello Renee. I can only answer for the state of Ohio, but when an inmate dies or is executed, the family is given the option of taking the remains for intermet.

If no one wants this, his remains are buried at the cemetary that is part of the prison's property. It is attended by the Pastor of the prison and two inmates who dig the grave. It has a small cross with a series of numbers only. The numbers carry a cross reference to who he was and the date of his death.

I hope this helps and you can find it useful
