  1. Yes, dead whales do float.  So do live ones.


  2. Many whales do float when they are killed. That is one reason why Right Whales were called Right Whales, they float when dead. Think about it. If you harpooned a whale and it sank how could it be cut up for the blubber?

  3. Whales do not float when they are dead because they are very heavy. They have thick layers of blubbers and hard skin.

  4. Some do & some don't. If it falls in a shallow area, it's gone in a matter of months. In the deep ocean, the whale fall can last over a year. The whale-fall & the things that live on it in the deep ocean constitute an entire ecosystem.
