for example, if I were to spend $50 on gas, and I have $500 in the bank, is my final balence $450? or do banks charge a fee per transaction?

  1. I do not know of any bank that charges a fee per transaction. Unless you are overdrawn.  Now a place you purchase something at may charge a fee.

    Now if you are talking about an actual purchase you did at a gas station its easy. Gas stations generally will send through 1 to 75 dollar charge on the account to make sure your card is good. Then you pay for your gas on top of that. Then 2 to 3 days later that 1 to 75 dollar charge drops off your account (refunded). It has really messed up some peoples accounts.

    You can avoid it by not paying at the pump and go inside to pay. Don't ask me why, but it isn't charged if you go inside.


  2. It depends on the bank you use.  Each bank sets their own fees.

    It can also depend on whether the transaction was performed using your PIN or a signature if your bank charges.

    You need to check the schedule of fees given to you when you opened your account or call your bank and ask them.
