  1. If it is only photosynthesis you are thinking about ,then deciduous trees do score over conifers ,larger surface area of spreading out green foliage, but then they are there only part of the year & the rest of the time you are left with bare branches ,confiers are at the job, year round.Looking at the larger picture each has its advantages & offer varied benefits.Nothing to beat a judicious combination of both types be it in  open stretches, forest areas or around homes

  2. I believe You need to plant deciduous trees on the west side of your home because the afternoon through early evening is when the sun is at it's hottest here in Arizona.

  3. Always think bio diverse

evergreens are there all the time

deciduous produce more condensation and so take more heat from the air.

But for the optimum soil condition you have to have a good mix of species.

For carbon absorbsion ,which is the present motive  for planting trees ,is best with big leaves ,the bigger the better ,like Pawlonia.

  4. Deciduous trees will help you conserve energy by reducing the amount of energy that you need to heat and cool your house.

If you plant deciduous trees on the south side of your house, they will shade your house from the sun in the summer and you will not need to use the air conditioner as much.

In the winter the deciduous trees lose their leaves and permit the sun to warm your house, reducing the amount of fuel that you need to use to heat your house.

  5. I like the silver maples around my house because they provide me with good shade and plenty of fresh oxygen in the summer time. But I have my white pines to the north for a wind break. But to answer your question the deciduous would be more efficient.

  6. For oxygen production alone deciduous trees are more efficient. Conifers advantage though is year round photosynthesis. Both though are great at reduction of the "heat island" effect in urban areas. Both also filter the air around reducing airborne pollutants and there root systems prevent soil erosion and flooding.
