Do different ant colonies have war with eachother over land and food and what not?

cuz ive been watchin them and i cant tell if all of the little hills are the same colonies or if there are 100 different ant colonies on my driveway

Once a colony has swarmed and left to start a new nest with a new queen, they usually will attack other ants that wander into their territory even if they came from a nest close by.
