Do different fathers make different size babies?

I had a daughter in my previous marriage she weighed 8 lb 9 oz and was 10 days late. I was wondering since I am remarried and having a baby from a different daddy, will my baby be about the same size? How much does the father have to do in the babies weight at birth?

  1. It varies really. My first was born at 35 wks weighing 5lbs 10ozs. Her dad was small. My second with my hubby was born at 35 wks weighing 5lbs 3ozs, my hubby is tall and muscular. I am now 37wks with our 2nd baby together so this one is def. going to be bigger. i think a lot depends on how you carry, diet, your body etc. but genetics most likely do play a factor.

  2. The father contributes 1/2 of the baby's genetic material - so he does have a contribution to the size & development of the baby.

  3. my husband is 6ft 7in and both my mother in law (when she was pregnant with him) and I look like we are having twins and about to explode!!!

I have heard that the baby will only be as big as the mother is so that she can keep him for 9 months or at least 39 weeks ... but my son is huge and im only 36 weeks ...

I think the father has alot to do with it .. but im not an expert!

  4. my first child was only 6lbs 7 ounces....his dad was a small guy.

    my daughter was 8lbs 4 ounces,,,,her dad was a 10lb baby.

so it may have something to do with it

  5. According to my doctor, if the baby is a boy the size of the father at birth is a good estimate. If the baby is a girl, she is probably going to be smaller than that. My husband and I are not small (he's 6'2" I'm 5' 8") and our kid is tiny. Born at 6 lbs, and now at 5 months she's still little.

  6. I think they do.  My oldest son weighed 7lbs. 14oz at birth and he has always been extremely thin he is 10 and weighs 78lbs.  My younger sons (both by my husband) weighed 7lbs. 3oz. and 6lbs. 12oz. at birth (both 37 weeks) and they are both thicker and will more than likely wear husky clothes when they get older.( they are almost three and weighing 10lbs. and 13 mos. weighing 25lbs.)   I am not sure that the weight will be affected at birth but more than likely it will determine their body types as they get older.

  7. This will make my mom sound awful, but I'm not sure there is a huge relation, because babies tend to get bigger the more of them you have.

Mom + daddy # 1 (6' 4"):  two daughters, both in the mid 7 lb range, second one larger than the first.

    Mom + daddy # 2 (6' 2"):  me, in the low 8 lb range.

Mom + daddy # 3 (5' 11"):  two daughters, both in the mid 8 lb range (again, second one larger than the first).

    Mom + daddy # 4 (5'10"): one son, 9 lb 15.5 oz.

The dads got smaller and the babies got bigger.  That's how it worked in my family.

Edit:  I don't know birth sizes of the fathers, except that the last one was premature and less than 5 lbs.  I should note that the oldest three grew up to be the largest even though we were the smallest as babies.  We're all about 5'8".  The younger ones are all much smaller as they head into their teenage years (my little brother is still 11, so we're waiting for a verdict on him).

  8. Usually the baby takes after the daddy when he was born. My little one was 7lbs when she was born so was her daddy and I was 8.

It could vary too, nothing is too sure, and it has a lot to do with your diet while you are pregnant also.

  9. this is my experience. i have 3 kids by 2 diff. guys.

my two oldests fatehr was almost 6 ft and was born early because his mother was toxic was only over 7 lbs

    baby boy - 8 lbs 22 in

    baby girl - 7 lbs 19 in

my third with a diff. shorter guy (dont know birth weight)

    baby boy - 6 lbs 18 in

so i know personally the saying ofthe more kids you have the bigger they get is wrong! all mine got smaller and smaller!

i guess its all genetics and eating habits.
