  1. Maybe a bit of both.  Some could go through a stage of wishing they where still had their whole body.

Other get on with their lives and build stronger character.  After they recovered get back on with their lives and what they are good at.

    they may learn new skill.

  2. You are an Outsider (Non-PWD) of the PWD Community. The word "crippled" is reserved for use inside the PWD Community by PWDs for various reasons. For an Outsider (Non-PWD) to call a PWD a "cripple" is considered to be extremely offensive by the PWD Community.

I never dreamed of myself of being a Non-PWD.

  3. I imagine it would depend on the individual.

And I have to echo DaveNCUSA here... can we please NOT use the word 'cripple?' I find it rather offensive.

  4. First of all, the use of the term "cripple" is considered to be offensive by most people.  Then, to answer your question, I am a below the knee amputee, but with my prosthetic on, my life is pretty much the same as it was before I lost my leg and in most instances, my dreams are the same as they were before I lost my leg.

  5. A. As has already been said the word crippled as a descriptive word for a person is offensive. I do refer to myself as a crip to others crips - and do see myself as having a crippled leg - but I am no cripple!

    B. It depends completely upon the nature of the dream. Sometime my disability is very present in a dream. Others times I seem to do things I couldn't ordinarily do. But then it is a dream after all.

  6. I'd say it depends on the dream and the person.

I have cerebral palsy and I dream both ways, if that makes any sense

  7. Amputees are not crippled.

Some times I'm wearing my prosthetic in my dream other times I'm not. Just like sometimes people dream they are themselves and other times you dream your other people, objects, or animals.

I also sleep walk which is very funny when I forget to put my leg. That's right I put my leg on in my sleep. Rather I used to be able to prior to the new set up.

I woke up last week in the bathroom with out my leg on and could not for the life of me figure out how I managed it.
