I have a suspension on my dmv record I got my license now. The dmv said the suspension will go away in a few years. If I were to move to a different state will they transfer the history to the new state so I'll end up having to wait longer?

  1. Speeding tickets do not get put on your new license when you move. Old suspensions from another state 3 years ago do not get put on your new license. (They might show up on your criminal record but that isnt the same thing)

Your driving record does not transfer to your new state (drunk driving might, not sure about that) but speeding tickets, suspensions, etc. do not get transfered to your new license.

Pami:You're wrong, I moved from TN to VA and they definately DO share information. They  check to make sure your license from your old state was currently valid, if so then you have no problem and speeding tickets dont transfer to your new license.

  2. Generally speaking, yes.  If you move from one state to another and attempt to get a license in your new state, your suspension in your former state will show up and they will give it the same force as it had in your old state.

  3. they are connected nation wide

  4. It will remain the same whichever state you move to.

  5. i dont know if it would take longer but i do know it will follow you from state to state though

  6. yes they can find out, most states have this information stored.  Some states are not connected, however, so that explains what happened to the guy above.

When you apply for the new drivers license, there will be a question on the paper that asks if your license is suspended in any other state.  If you answer no and they find out, you're in even bigger trouble!  And, if you answer yes, they will look it up and carry out the suspension.
