Do doctors perform experiments on comatose people?

Like if your child went into a coma, is there a chance someone would approach you and ask you to sign them over for experiments if there was a good chance they wouldn't ever come out of the coma? Is that legal? Then again people in comas don't really feel pain, or do they? Does that make any difference to you?

  1. A real doctor would not ever. It is not legal. They fell pain like the rest of us if they are in a certain type of coma. Yes it does make a difference to me.

  2. There are always studies ongoing here and there. It's possible if the comatose patient were in a teaching hospital, somebody might approach the family about entering him in a study. But the study would have to be approved by the local ethics committee, among other things, and the family would have to give full informed consent for enrollment in the study.
