Question:

Do dogs get dead legs / pins and needles?

My dog has just been sleeping in his basket for a good hour or two. We've just got up to go to bed, and when the dog stood up, he yelped and hobbled for a bit. He seems fine now, but I'm worried that he might be hurt. He was fine before he got in his basket, and is walking fine now.

Could it be that he just had a dead leg / pins and needles?

  1. I think it can happen to dogs, if the blood flow gets cut off from a particular limb, just like a person.

  2. That is correct the basket might just be a little small for him....please get him a new one....

  3. Yes, it can happen to dogs too! My dogs have a tendency to put their limbs to sleep and every time they get scared to death and yelp like crazy when they wake back up.

  4. yes, dogs can have their legs and feet "go to sleep" just like humans can.

Keep an eye on him for the next day, and if nothing seems to bother him, then it probably is just that his leg was asleep.  If he yelps when he gets up or is not walking right, then definitely have him checked out.
