i own two dogs , a feamale " lilly ", she's a old english mastiff , and a male "moose", he's a great dane , thay are both fawn colored, now for the past week lilly has been draging her *** around often, i keep checking her stools for worms but there arn't any , so i'm wondering if dogs can have hemmeroids , last night i came home and she went to come running in to see me and she was wimpering as she did, and then again this morning , so i'm thinking that or she pulled a muscle , but i cant find anyware that hurts her no matter how much i touch her trying to find the paine spot , and i cant . or if you have any other idea's thanks for taking time. cabby420

  1. dogs have  a gland back in the you know what area. and they do rub it to break the oil out . some pet people ive heard this rub it and break it. but i dont think its hemroroids. ask your vet or change the diet some.

  2. dogs don't generally drag their rumps because of worms. they do so because the anal glands are impacted & need to be emptied. it usually happens naturally when they go poo, but sometimes it doesn't empty all the way and the gland gets impacted. you need to bring her in to the vet to have that taken care of. (or the groomer, some of them will do ti as well.)

however, when a dog has worms, they don't generally show up in the stool anyway. the vet checks the stool for microscopic eggs, so don't assume your dog doesn't have any just because they aren't seen. if expressing the anal glands doesn't do the trick, bring a fresh stool sample in to the vet for  check - it's relatively cheap, about $15 - and you don't usually need to bring the dog along.

  3. She could need her anal glands expressed. A groomer can do it, or a vet can.
