Do dogs hump furniture and stuffed animals and people’s legs because the dogs are sexually frustrated?

This is the theory that I have always had (although not one of us human creatures can get inside a dog’s mind). For all of my life I (and other people around me) have ascribed to this “theory”. Today, my boyfriend’s mother came downstairs and told me that she had just heard a man on the radio saying that what we have always believed about why some dogs hump things is actually not true. This man states that in the animal kingdom, animals perform that particular “action” to show their dominance over another animal. I still believe that poor “Omar the pug” is sexually frustrated (even though Donald’s mom is probably desperate to convince me otherwise). I have watched Omar making the humping action while l*****g the back of Donald’s knee & it sure looked like some sort of sexual action to me (regardless of what that “expert” on the radio thinks).

  1. Dogs don't have sexual urges the same way humans so. The guy in the radio is right, even if you don't want to admit it to your mom =)

  2. sometimes its because they're in heat.

  3. No.

    They hump you to show that they are in charge.  Don't allow it.

  4. it is a sign of dominance, ive got 2 dogs n the youngest 1 started doin it to the other, we asked the vets and our friend who is actually training to be a dog phsycologist n they both said that it is a sign of dominance, as is giving you a paw without u askin. there is loads of little things that they do to become dominant, like goin out the door before you, eating before you have you tea,goin down the stairs efore you, all little things that you wouldnt even think about! i was amazed when i heard all this, and it makes sense when you think about it!!!!!

  5. this is an odd question to ask on the internet o_o;;

    but i doubt they're sexually frustrated....

    dogs don't have the same emotions as people, and although we feel like 'they understand us' they don't have as complicated of feelings.

    but seriously, odd question.

  6. actually a hormone  called testosterone is over producing in his body witch is giving him urges to hump objects so the only ways is to neuter him to stop the humping or u can try to train him but it is very difficult

  7. I actually didn't know that anyone still believed that dogs humping objects was anything but dominance related!  Well, believe the man on the radio, it's all about dominance.
