  1. My guy when he first came to me was neurotically shy, the first time he saw his reflection in reflective glass he started anxious barking after some time and sniffing he started calming down but for months we would be walking down that street and he'd catch the reflection out of the corner of his eye and he'd jump till he saw it was his reflection. This guy is now very well socialized with other dogs and is out going, confident and approaches well behaved dogs now. He does prefer to vacate the area if other dogs are being aggressive, unstable and barking. He now will glance at the reflection but has no interest beyond the glance now. I don't know if he recognizes it as himself for sure or just an image like on TV but take what you want from the story. I've had dogs come through who were convinced the TV animals were real, my guy know they are not real and ignores the images and sounds.

  2. No dog of mine ever has. They have either barked themselves silly at their reflections or dismissed them completely.

  3. I think some do.  I think it depends on how smart they are. lol

  4. mine only barked at the mirror when she first saw herself one night as a puppy.  now she just looks like so what.

  5. Some do. I am not sure if they recognize themselves, but mine does not bark at the mirror or tries to play with the reflection. And he is still a puppy (5 months old). Instead he uses the mirror to secretly stare at me. (That way, he doesn't have to turn around to look at me.)

  6. I'm not sure all dogs recognize themselves but mine uses our big wardrobe mirrors to look for us coming into the bedroom! when she was little she loved to play with the image in the full length mirrors! If I sit with her near the mirror she seems to understand the image is her.

  7. It doesn't matter if its a mirror or Glass reflection. He licks the mirror and the glass of china hutch. Of course he is spoiled rotten- but I think all Rots like to stick the chest out and look at themselves. He sure is a handsome ,loving brat.!!!

  8. No they do not. They can see the image but they don't have the capacity to recognize themselves...as individuals...they don't have the capacity for identity, i.e. "that's me".

  9. Mine seem to.  lol

  10. Mine doesn't.  She tries to play with it.  And gets very confused about why it won't follow her around to play in other areas of the house.

  11. No, they don't.

Babies until 1 do not recognize themselves in the mirror eighter.

  12. lol, I hope not.  Mine sees himself in the mirror and scares himself to death.
