  1. This is the same as asking if you would suffer any pain if you had any organ removed. Yes. It hurts.

A veterinarian will administer medication to make your pet sleepy. S/he won't remember the procedure. However, after the surgery is done...I highly recommend paying for a pain injection and medication to go home. It's painful and they hurt. Think about when women have their uterus removed...they're in the hospital for 2 weeks on a morphine drip. Same goes with your pet. They will hurt after surgery. During surgery, however, they will be entirely asleep and should be in minimal to no pain at that time.

Also, depending on what medications your vet uses to sedate your pet, there are "memory paralytics" used in veterinary medicine which keeps your pet from remembering anything after the sedative was administered.

  2. Not in a horrific sense. Its a surgery, there is bound to be soreness.

All of my dogs were right back to themselves the day of surgery when they had it done. You'd never even think they had just come out of surgery, aside from the disdain of eating.

I had to break my neck to get them to stop playing. No pain there.

    :)

  3. as already mentioned.. they are OUT during surgery.. a bit groggy coming out of the anesthesia..  the stitches seem to be itchy at first..  males tend to recover faster than females.. but overall it's not that bad.. no worse than any child getting tonsils taken out..

  4. Of course! Its surgery, but they also suffer pain giving birth or getting hit by a car because a unfixed male jumped a fence and got hit by a car on his way to visit a female in heat.It is a do able pain that fades away and usually so does the memory of the surgery.Dogs that are not fixed can and do have a higher rate of cancer in there private areas, now that's real unbearable pain.So its well worth it.Tilks Mom

  5. Yesssssssssssssss   Dogs r like humans they have pain it hurts really bad my dog got spayed and she wasnt the same  a week and they get sick often after

  6. Yes.  Females moreso than males, as the surgery is more invasive.

  7. Well it IS a surgery - you can expect a certain amount of discomfort.

The dog is under anethesia during the procedure - so they won't feel anything then. Some vets do administer pain killers for post op recovery ask you vet about it.

  8. They are are asleep and feel no pain. The vet may send pain pills home with you. So no they do not feel in pain during the operation.

  9. No, they are put under anesthesia! :) My vet gave us pain pill to give her afterwards too. She seemed fine although groggy from anesthesia!

  10. They do not feel any pain during the surgery. Whether being spayed or neutered, they are put under for the procedure. But afterwards they will be sore, females more than males generally. But after about a week, it's like it never happened.

  11. i guess so....unless they are numbed. if a male gets neterued hes getting his junk yanked and if a girl get spayed then she is gettin her... well everything taken out that has to do with pregnantcy!

  12. They may feel a little sore afterwards. But dogs get well after the effects after a spay/neuter pretty quickly. Some dogs are even up and running by the end of the day!
