Do doves only like to mate with the same spiecies of there kind?

well we have ringneck doves and they are white with brown spots on thire back also they have a black line on the back of there neck but when we put another dove in thiere (a white dove) they started to attack it

  1. For one thing, you can't just put 2 strange birds in the same cage.  Doves mate for life and many times will not have another mate if they lose theirs. Why don't you just leave things the way they were.  Yes, different species of the same bird will breed with each other....if they are male and female and have chosen to mate with each other.  They won't do it just because you want them too.  It has to be a mate they are satisfied with.  Cross breeding different species of the same breed is just wrong.  It's one of the reasons we get breeds that are weaker and susceptible to diseases....Unless you REALLY know what you are doing.  If you are going to breed doves, keep the same species of the breeds together, don't mix.  Please read my profile.


  2. One thing doves are pretty protective of their mates and territories.  What you can do if they are the same species, you can remove the female for a wk or two and introduce him to another female.  The male will just go right ahead to winning her over by chasing her and pecking her on the head. Hope this help.
