  1. I take my down to the coin op laungry mats. They have extra large washing machine for just this occassion. Its a few quarters more but you can wash it and dry on delicate. You can also dry clean if you like. Just depends on what you would like to do.

  2. What does the label say?

We used to have a down comforter(I think) and we just washed it in the washer/dryer with no problems because thats what the label said. I'm sure it varies though.

  3. We have a king size down comforter. According to the label it is dry clean only. But it was more expensive to dry clean it than it cost (we got it on sale) So I washed it the laundry mat, and threw 3 tennis balls in with it in the dryer to help it fluff back up. No problem. That was a few years ago. Now I have big  washer and dryer I put it in at home. I just have to pull it out of the dryer a few times and shove it back in.

The trick to put it back into the duvet cover is to turn the cover inside out and lay it out on the floor, then using duvet clips (you can get them at Walmart and Target) clip each corner of the comforter to the duvet cover. And then turn right side out.

  4. ~~Mine says to dry clean, but I've always washed it and it comes out like brand new. I wash mine on gentle, with soap and softener. Then I dry it on regular heat, BUT you must add two or three tennis balls to the dryer with it!  If you don't it can come out all clumpy and be a mess,  Anytime you wash anything with filling add the tennis balls. I bought a set of three in the pet section of the $1 store and keep them in a ziplock back just for laundry. My comforter has held up for years handling this way.~~

  5. If you can get that huge sucker in the washing machine...more power to you. My machine wouldn't be big enough for that. I think your best bet would be just to take it to the cleaners....ask them when is the earliest you can pick it up, if they know you need it fast they may accomodate you.

Oh, and I also love the smart a$s answer from Clinton!

  6. haha @ clinton's answer.

Umm... I have no clue, but, I took my down comforter off my bed and switched it with a much lighter one for summer. Mine was only on for about 3 weeks in the winter since I HATE to be hot while I'm sleeping. My husband protested my taking it off the bed. He called it "the cloud"...but anyway, I won and it came off.

Anyway, mine should probably be cleaned, too..SOOO I'm interested in the answers you'll rec'v. (I didn't read my label either).

  7. not by themselves, you usually have to drive them there

  8. If you have a front loading washer it will turn out fine, but if you have a top loader then I would take it into the cleaners.

Top loaders agitate which can be hard on the comforter but a front loader will do a wonderful job. I've washed my down comforters many times and they always come out wonderful.

  9. We have a down comforter that we use year round. I always dread putting the duvet on it, so it is usually a naked, white comforter that sits on our bed. As you can imagine, it gets a bit dirty with children and dogs climbing all over the place.

Honestly, ours says to dry clean, but we have always washed and dried it... It is still in perfect condition. When I dry it, it doesn't always dry completely in the dryer, so I like to lay it out in the sun. Makes it nice and fresh!

ADD: LOL!! I KNOW! I hate whoever designed those darn duvets! I was naive and fooled into thinking that they were so wonderful and that it would be so much better b/c I would only have to wash the duvet... yeah right. More power to those of you who manage to get the duvet on correctly in your first try. I can get it tangled, half of it inside out, you name it, I've done it! Takes me quite some time to get it on correctly!
