Do dreadlocks compress or expand as they grow? I desperately need to know!?

I put my hair in two strand twists but I don't know if they're going to end up being this size, or smaller as they lock. I've been needing to know this for a couple of weeks now and I urgently need an answer! Please help me.

im assuming you are or african decent and your hair is extremely kinky. If you arent and/or your hair isnt, you should take them out and backcomb because they wont form dreadlocks.

but, again, assuming you are african and you do have kinky hair, they should work out fine.

Typically, and it doesnt matter what method you use to start them, and what kind of hair you have, dreadlocks will shrink then expand. both are a product of tightening =P

what i mean is, at first your hair will shrink horizontally. they will become skinnier as they start to tighten up. Especially ater you shower and get your hair squeaky clean, they will slowly tighten and look skinnier than they used to be. never fear! once they've shrunk/tightened all they can this way, they will start to shrink vertically and get a little fatter. as the knots tighten, the only direction left to pull is up, as the hair pulls up, you lose some length , but the dreads bulk up with the hair it gained from the length. So.. the diameter of your dreads should have a slight overall increase in diameter over the course of a year or so, maybe less if yoour hair is very textured and locks faster. After that your dreads will stop shrinking in length and you'll start noticing them growing

thats how you know they are nice and locked up and mature. however, keep in mind you probablly won't lose too much length because your hair is already compact and kinky =)

depends, i dont know how the 2 strand twist method will work

but dreadlocks should tightened and some can expand some can compress.

They tend to expand for a while, then they become smaller in girth as they mature and tighten

My friends locked up over the summer and THEY GOT SO MUCH BIGGER
