Do ducks eat fish?

we have a creek in our back yard and i was wondering if my two mallard ducks eat fish? we have some small fish so why not?

  1. Mergansers are fish eaters.  They have tooth-like serrations on their bills that help them to hold on to their prey.  They are known locally as saw bills.


  2. Some ducks do, but mallards rarely eat fish.  Mallards, I am sure you don't have the wild type, but the domestic ones eat the same, prefer plants, seeds and grain.

    Take a look a your ducks bill.  You see it is not made for catching and eating fish.  Ducks that eat fish are divers.  Mallards are not divers.

  3. they do catch the occasional fish.. but their diet is most grass and water plants
