Question:

Do ducks float or swim??

i mean i know they have to move their feet to get places but when they dont go places do they just float??

  5. well to be honest

    this is how it is

    Ducks have an oil gland (all birds do actually)

    so when ducks preen themselves with their beaks they spread an oil all over which in turn waterproofs their feathers so when they are in the water they don't get all wet (the feather don't absorb the water) and the water just glides off so in turn yes the bird does "kind of float" and not sink.

    also they swim using their webbed feet to get to whatever place on the lake/river they want to get to =)

    so when they are just on a bed of water they do  basically just float because they are waterproofedand don't sink =)

    They can float and waddle from place to place but they can also go underwater and swim.
